Live test and screenshots different from actual layout
Fri, 09/23/2011 - 08:15
I've been having problems with a layout that occurs only on some machines with
Windows XP servicepack 3 /IE8
Windows Vista /IE9
The strange thing is that with the exact same browser version and OS version on some machines there's a problem with the layout and on others there isn't (with the exact same content).
The problem is that I've never been able to see the "wrong layout" in any screenshots or with live testing. Unfortunately my own machine shows the correct layout so it's basically impossible to debug this problem.
Does anyone have any idea how there could be this difference? Or if there are some other settings that could change it.
FYI this problem has gotten worse since I added the meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=edge"

Tough issue - not being able to reproduce it on your machines or here at CrossBrowserTesting makes it difficult to fix. I have seen local settings like large fonts or the dpi settings impact the rendering of pages, so I would check this. My only other suggestion is to make sure you have gotten a screenshot of the page from the user / customer that is reporting the issue - sometimes actually seeing a copy of the screen will make it apparent what the issue is.
Thanks
